We have used Smiths Buffet Catering menus a few times now at Marshall Institute, London School of Economics and have been so impressed each time. Firstly Natalie is super helpful in making all of the arrangements and talking through the options. The Smiths team are so professional, friendly and their creative buffet is fantastic. 1How much does a creative buffet catering cost?
The average cost of hot and cold buffets per person is £10 plus VAT. However, Smith’s buffets vary widely in requirements and therefore cost. Delivery, equipment hire (incl. chafing dishes, buffet tables, linens, crockery marquees, etc.), butlers, and other extras are quoted by event.
White porcelain or vintage china can be supplied POA.
50% deposit (for non-account clients) 7 working days before the event and balance payable within 30 days is required. For wedding buffets, a deposit is always required to secure your date.

2What is the minimum order for a buffet?
The minimum order for a cold fork buffet is 20. For hot fork buffets, we ask for a minimum of 50 – chafing dishes and Buttler are required. Alternative, menus such as vegan and vegetarian, Gf, DF and Halal are accepted with no minimum.
Orders are received by 12:00 noon, AT LEAST 2 working days prior to the event. For example, Friday for Tuesday deliveries. (so Thursday order for Monday deliveries) If staff are required as much notice as possible allows us to hand pick from our freelance butlers and serving staff.
3Can I mix-up different buffet menus?
Yes! Our buffets are not “set”. Clients are welcome to cherry-pick from any menu to create your own selection. In addition, you can add items from the savouries and snacks page; just give us 48 hours notice instead of the usual 24 hours.
4Where do you source your meat?
We only work with suppliers who share our high standards for produce. These include:
- Master sausage maker Jean Paul at Franconian, who’ll custom-make any sausage you want
- Award-winning butchers Godfrey’s for 100% Aberdeen Angus burgers
- Billingsgate fish market
- HFA-certified suppliers for halal meats as required
5What alternatives do you offer for special dietary preferences / requirements?
We provide a wide range of vegan and vegetarian buffet menus and meet religious requirements. Please see each buffet menu above for more detail.
Celiac requirements: Smith’s have a range of gluten- and dairy-free options. Please, ask for celiac food when you place your order.
Orders are made fresh every day using ingredients sourced directly from London’s markets at Spitalfields, Smithfield and Billingsgate.
6How much is buffet catering delivery cost?
Delivery charges are calculated by postcode.
All Smith’s sandwich platters are delivered on disposable black platters, ready to serve.
No extra charge for deliveries on white porcelain, but a collection charge is made as we need to pick up the platters.
For larger events, we can also supply tea and coffee, cutlery, crockery, buffet tables, linens and waiting staff to look after your event.
7Where do you deliver in London?
We can deliver to venues in South London (including South West and East) and Greater London.
The delivery charge is calculated by postcode and finalised at 12 noon 3 working days prior to your event. It cannot be lowered after this time but if your requirements change may be raised accordingly.
There is also a collection charge, calculated by postcode, for pick-up of any equipment.
8Do you provide buffet catering outside London?
Yes! We’ve opened a new creative “kitchen laboratory” off the M25 to serve venues in Surrey and Kent.
9Do you provide staff and equipment?
Yes! On request, we’ll provide all your service and bar staff, as well as kitchen and serving equipment for hot fork buffet. This includes buffet tables, white porcelain or vintage china, linens, etc.
Hot fork buffet catering menus requires chafing dishes and waiting staff as standard.
Vintage china/cutlery are available POA but there is an £80.00 delivery/collection/hand wash up charge made by the Hire Company.
10What about drinks?
We can provide all types of drinks, including free glass hire. All drinks are supplied sale-or-return and wine rates.
